The Brief
GeeWhizStuff contracted me to work with them on their iPhone app - Use Your Handwriting®. They had released a free version of the application and were just getting ready to deploy their premium version called Use Your Handwriting® GOLD. They needed me to create a set of icons that they could build their navigation menu around. After designing the entire navigation UI for the app, I went on to design their application icon as well, for free as well as for GOLD.
The Solution
Use Your Handwriting, which by the way is an incredible application (iTunes link here), lets users write down their ideas, thoughts, todos and notes by using just their finger. Instead of typing stuff out, the user writes as he would with a pen on paper. The app is incredibly well organized, so the icons designed and the application icon itself needed to reflect the idea of the app and the look and feel. At first glance, the icons are simple, but a closer look reveals a glossy color, which the users seemed to really love. They're also intuitive and, without reading their captions, you immediately know which does what.
