The Brief
For Appbite.com, keeping both readers and developers that submitted applications happy was a top priority. As part of a mini-advertising package, developers could submit iOS applications to us for review and for a fee, I would design a leaderboard banner for them and place it on the website. The banner needed to promote the app in question by using graphics that made sense. A lot of the times, I had no graphics to work with at all, so I had to make use of imagination and the demo screens shared on the Apple App Store.
The Solution
Obviously, each banner had a unique solution, but at the same time I didn't want to taint the overall image of the website with graphical banners that seem out of place. The solution was to design a set of templates that each banner would follow. The templates didn't define any colors that banners needed to adhere to, but rather element placement within was consistent. Developers always wanted to get a copy of the banner to use with their own marketing materials, which was great news. I'm designing around 4-5 leaderboards per week for developers and for Appbite.com!
